Vice-President Radhakrishnan Urges Youth to Balance Progress and Preservation at Nagaland University Convocation

Lumami, Nagaland | March 6, 2026
Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan called on students to pursue “progress with purpose” while preserving harmony with nature at the 8th Convocation of Nagaland University, held at its Lumami campus on Friday. It was his first visit to the North-East since assuming office.
Praising Nagaland as a land “where nature, culture and courage blend in harmony,” the Vice-President said the state’s greatest strength lies in its people and their traditions. He lauded Nagaland University for promoting higher education and research across the region since its establishment in 1994, highlighting its cancer research initiatives and efforts to document indigenous languages and customary laws.
Addressing graduates, he urged the youth to build a stronger nation, reject drugs, and keep upgrading their knowledge to meet emerging challenges. He also underlined the government’s commitment to developing the North-East under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, mentioning the PM-DevINE scheme and recent peace-building initiatives, including the February 2026 tripartite agreement with the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation.
During his visit, Shri Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stone for HEFA Phase II buildings at the university. The event was attended by Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Deputy Chief Minister Shri T. R. Zeliang, and other dignitaries.
Interestingly, the Vice-President, who also serves as the ex officio Chancellor of Panjab University in Chandigarh, could not attend that university’s convocation earlier due to a packed schedule.
