Sinners Rewrites Oscar History
Dominating the nominations is Sinners, which stormed ahead with a staggering 16 nominations—the most ever received by a single film. In doing so, it surpasses the long-standing record of 14 nominations jointly held by classics such as All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016). The achievement firmly positions Sinners as this year’s film to beat.

A Competitive Field of Contenders
Hot on its heels is One Battle After Another, earning an impressive 13 nominations and emerging as a strong challenger across major categories.
A trio of films—Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, and Sentimental Value—each secured nine nominations, reflecting a broad appreciation for diverse storytelling styles and genres. Meanwhile, Hamnet picked up eight nominations, reinforcing its critical and awards-season momentum.
All Eyes on March 15
The winners will be revealed at the Oscars ceremony on March 15, an evening that promises both glamour and sharp wit. Hosting duties will be handled by U.S. comedian Conan O’Brien, whose return to the Oscar stage is expected to bring a mix of humor, irreverence, and classic late-night charm.
With records shattered, fierce competition across categories, and anticipation building for Hollywood’s grandest night, the 2026 Oscars are shaping up to be one of the most memorable ceremonies in recent years.
India’s Oscar Entry Homebound Misses Final Nomination
India’s official entry, Homebound, fell short of a final nomination at the 98th Academy Awards.
The film had earlier made it to the top 15 shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category but did not advance to the final slate of five nominees. Even so, the shortlist recognition marks a significant milestone: Homebound is only the fifth Indian film to reach this advanced stage in the category’s Oscar history.
Final Nominees: Best International Feature Film
The five films that ultimately edged past Homebound to secure nominations are:
- The Secret Agent (Brazil)
- It Was Just An Accident (France)
- Sentimental Value (Norway)
- Sirat (Spain)
- The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia)
While the final nomination proved elusive, Homebound’s presence on the shortlist underscores the film’s international resonance and keeps India’s growing Oscar footprint firmly in focus.
