The 56th International Film Festival of India: A Celebration of Global Cinema in Goa

The curtains have drawn on the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), held in Panaji, Goa, from November 20–28, 2025. Over eight days, the festival reaffirmed its stature as one of Asia’s premier cinematic gatherings, bringing together filmmakers, artists, and audiences from across the globe.

A Showcase of Diversity
This year’s edition featured 240 films from 81 countries, reflecting the breadth of contemporary world cinema. The programming balanced established auteurs with emerging voices, offering audiences a rich tapestry of storytelling traditions and innovative cinematic techniques.


Awards and Recognition
- The Golden Peacock for Best Feature Film was awarded to Skin of Youth, directed by Ashleigh Mayfair, a Vietnamese production that captivated audiences with its layered narrative and visual artistry.
- The Lifetime Achievement Award honored legendary actor Rajinikanth, celebrating his five decades of contribution to Indian cinema. His acceptance underscored his enduring passion for the craft, remarking that he would choose acting “a hundred times over.”
- The festival also marked a milestone with India’s first AI Film Festival, where Being won Best AI Visualised Film, signaling the growing intersection of technology and creativity.


Opening and Closing Highlights
The festival opened with Gabriel Mascaro’s dystopian drama The Blue Trail, setting a contemplative tone. It concluded with A Useful Ghost, a poignant narrative that left audiences reflecting on cinema’s power to illuminate human experience.


Glamour and Innovation
Bollywood star Ranveer Singh added a touch of glamour at the closing ceremony, promoting his upcoming film Dhurandhar. Meanwhile, the WAVES Film Bazaar and startup showcases highlighted cinema’s evolving relationship with entrepreneurship and innovation.

Beyond the awards and premieres, IFFI 2025 underscored Goa’s role as a cultural hub where tradition meets modernity. By honoring icons, embracing new technologies, and fostering global dialogue, the festival demonstrated cinema’s enduring ability to connect people across borders.
