International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the the World Bank Group Annual Meetings
The Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are taking place in Washington, DC, from October 13 to 18. These meetings gather representatives from 191 member countries, along with thousands of policymakers, journalists, and leaders from civil society.
Each year, both the Annual and Spring Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group bring together central bankers, finance ministers, development officials, private sector executives, civil society representatives, and academics. They discuss the state of the global economy and address international issues such as growth outlook, financial stability, and poverty reduction.
The Meetings are the only gathering of their kind in the world, serving as a unique forum for discussions on economic policymaking. The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank Group occur in October in Washington, DC, and every third year in a city of another member country.
The Board of Governors consists of a high-level representative from each of the 191 member countries, typically the finance minister, central bank governor, or minister of development. During the Meetings, the Governors participate in a plenary session and discuss the challenges for the global economy. They also decide on significant policy issues related to the future work of the two organizations, which their respective Executive Boards subsequently implement.
