All winning films are now eligible for the 98th Oscars®.

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 7, 2024 — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored its student winners from colleges and universities worldwide at the 52nd Student Academy Awards ceremony tonight.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze placements were announced, and trophies were presented during a ceremony held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City in partnership with Rolex. This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received 3,127 entries from 988 colleges and universities worldwide. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor delivered remarks during the event. The night’s category presenters included Lou Diamond Phillips, Governor of the Academy Actors Branch, as well as filmmakers Craig Brewer, Jon M. Chu, and Alex Woo.

First-time honors are awarded to the University of Copenhagen, Gobelins, the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, the London College of Communication, and the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Films that have won a Student Academy Award are eligible to compete for the 98th Oscars® in the categories of Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film. The winners in 2025 will join the ranks of previous Student Academy Award recipients, including Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen, and Robert Zemeckis. Past winners have collectively received 69 Oscar® nominations and have won or shared a total of 15 awards.
The Student Academy Awards were established in 1972 to provide a platform for emerging global talent, creating opportunities within the industry to showcase their work.
