New Delhi, September 9, 2025 — Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was elected as the 15th Vice President of India on Tuesday, making him the third leader from Tamil Nadu to hold this esteemed position.

Radhakrishnan succeeds Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned as Vice President on July 21.

Before his election, Radhakrishnan was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra when he was nominated as the vice presidential candidate by the BJP-led NDA.

Radhakrishnan brings a wealth of political and administrative experience that will be beneficial in his role as Vice President, who also serves as the ex officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

An avid sports enthusiast, Radhakrishnan was a college champion in table tennis and a long-distance runner. He also enjoys playing cricket and volleyball.

Recognized as an untainted leader, Radhakrishnan’s extensive political and administrative background will be valuable in the Vice President’s office. It will also serve him well as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

An official profile circulated by the NDA presents Radhakrishnan as a leader who is distinguished, knowledgeable, and free from any legal accusations.
