New Delhi, India, June 27, 2025 — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Dong Jun, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting in Qingdao, China, on June 26, 2025. The two ministers engaged in detailed discussions about the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility along the India-China border.
The Defence Minister acknowledged the efforts of both sides to restore normalcy in bilateral relations. He emphasized the importance of addressing complex issues through a structured roadmap for ongoing engagement and de-escalation.
Mr. Rajnath Singh highlighted the significance of effective border management and called for a permanent solution to border demarcation by revitalizing existing mechanisms. He emphasized the need to foster good neighborly relations to maximize mutual benefits and collaborate for stability both in Asia and globally. Furthermore, he urged taking concrete actions on the ground to bridge the trust deficit that arose following the 2020 border standoff.
The two Ministers have agreed to continue consultations at various levels to make progress on disengagement, de-escalation, border management, and eventual delimitation through existing mechanisms.
The Defence Minister underscored the significant milestone of reaching 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He also expressed appreciation for the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar yatra, which had been suspended for five years.
