Washington, DC, April 7, 2025 — The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has released the following statement in response to the recent announcement of tariffs by the United States:

“We are in the process of assessing the macroeconomic implications of the recently announced tariff measures. These measures represent a significant risk to the global economic outlook, particularly during a period of sluggish growth. It is essential to avoid actions that may further jeopardize the world economy. We call upon the United States and its trading partners to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve trade tensions and mitigate uncertainty.”

“We will disseminate the findings of our assessment in the forthcoming World Economic Outlook, which is scheduled for publication coinciding with the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings later this month.”
