New Delhi, India, April 7, 2025 — The UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia in New Delhi, together with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Ikigai Law, which is the implementation partner, will host a stakeholder consultation on the AI Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) in India. This event is scheduled for April 8, 2025, in Hyderabad.
A key event segment will feature a fireside chat on the IndiaAI Mission with Mr. Abhishek Singh, CEO of the IndiaAI Mission and Additional Secretary of MeitY. The event will also include a panel discussion titled “Shaping Ethics in AI Governance: Government and Multilateral Perspectives.” Senior officials from MeitY, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Amrita University, UNESCO, and the Telangana Government will participate in this discussion. Additionally, participants will engage in four thematic breakout groups focused on governance, workforce readiness, infrastructure, and use cases, allowing for in-depth dialogue and contributions regarding key aspects of India’s AI readiness.
It is the third of five multi-stakeholder consultations under the AI RAM initiative by UNESCO and MeitY, following earlier sessions held in New Delhi and Bangalore. This initiative aims to create an India-specific AI policy report by mapping the strengths and opportunities within the ethical AI ecosystem. The consultation is open to policymakers, technologists, academics, and practitioners, providing a valuable opportunity to contribute to developing a responsible and future-ready AI roadmap for the country.
This initiative is timely as India launches its ambitious INDIAai Mission, supported by over ₹10,000 crore in funding. The Safe and Trusted AI pillar is central to this mission, which underscores the Government of India’s commitment to ethical, accountable, and secure AI development. By promoting indigenous frameworks, governance tools, and self-assessment guidelines, the mission aims to empower innovators and make the benefits of AI accessible across various sectors.
