Metrea Secures Air-to-Air Refueling Contract with Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force has awarded a contract for air-to-air refueling to Metrea.

WASHINGTON, April 2, 2025 — Metrea, a leading commercial air-to-air refueling (AAR) provider, announced today that it has secured a contract with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to improve AAR training capabilities. As part of this contract, Metrea will deliver Flight Refueler Aircraft (FRA) stationed at Indian Air Force Station Agra in Central India.

Metrea announced in July that it had acquired the French Air & Space Force’s C-135FR and KC-135RG tanker fleet. This acquisition expanded their presence in the commercial air-to-air refueling (AAR) market by adding fourteen tankers to their existing fleet of four KC-135R tankers. With 18 tankers, Metrea now operates the world’s largest commercial aerial refueling fleet, surpassing all but four sovereign nations in size and capability.

Metrea is the only company that owns and operates a fleet of C-/KC-135 aircraft, providing air-to-air refueling services that seamlessly and safely integrate into military aviation training and operations. This new contract with India signifies further growth in the commercial air-to-air refueling market, in addition to Metrea’s existing contract with the U.S. Navy, which supports an expanding list of U.S., allied, and partner air forces. The Metrea aviation units have logged over 130,000 flight hours across various aircraft types, missions, and locations, aiding U.S., U.K., and other allied and partner government national security objectives.

Metrea’s tanker aircraft are fitted with two wing-mounted Multi-Point Refueling System (MPRS) pods that enable refueling for Navy, Marine Corps, and partner nation aircraft equipped with probes.

“Metrea is honored to be working with the Indian Air Force. Our contract will quickly expand their AAR training capability. It will facilitate extensive training, exercise, and movement opportunities to improve IAF readiness.”
