- Faux Pas by Panjab University Chandigarh. It writes its Pakistani sister’s name on the convocation dress badge instead of its own.
Chandigarh, India, March 17, 2025 — The Registrar of Panjab University in Chandigarh issued instructions to candidates receiving degrees at its annual convocation on March 12, 2025.
“Convocation for the conferment of the following degrees will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in the Panjab University Gymnasium Hall, at the University Campus, Sector-14, Chandigarh,” the Regsistrar’s announcement said. “Candidates shall wear the academic costumes specified in the table below. The Jackets will be available on hire before Rehearsal @ Rs. 120/- per set (for Rehearsal and Convocation) along with a security of Rs. 1000/- (refundable on return) from the firm who put up his stalls near the Gymnasium Hall.”
Punjab University is in Lahore, Pakistan, while Panjab University is in Chandigarh, India. The two universities are sister institutions, with the one in Lahore being the original.
According to a report in The Indian Express, students say that a misspelling of the university’s name on the convocation attire has adversely impacted Panjab University’s reputation.

Panjab University has designed a new convocation dress in accordance with UGC guidelines. The university incorporated traditional embroidery to promote its Punjabi cultural identity. However, it failed to ensure the accuracy of its name and logo.

The university’s name is misspelled as ‘Punjab’ instead of ‘Panjab’ on the badge on the convocation dress jacket. “Punjab University” means Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan.
According to The Indian Express, the Panjab University Administration’s negligence has caused significant frustration among degree-receiving students. Students are demanding immediate corrections and action against those responsible. The university has not yet responded to these concerns.
