India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, met with the University of Southampton delegation.

New Delhi, India, January 31, 2025 — Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan convened a meeting today in New Delhi with a delegation from the University of Southampton and representatives from the British Council in India. The meeting included the participation of Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education; Professor Mark E. Smith, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton; and Ms. Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director of the British Council in India, along with various officials from the Ministry of Education.

Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan articulated that the University of Southampton Delhi NCR campus, distinguished as one of the top 100 universities globally and recognized as the first foreign institution to establish a campus in India, is set to offer high-quality education that is firmly anchored in research, innovation, and practical applications for both Indian and international students.
He further asserted that this initiative constitutes a pivotal advancement in India’s endeavor to internationalize education. It supports the Study in India program and aims to elevate global education standards within the country, as delineated in NEP 2020.

During the meeting, Professor Smith gave the Minister an overview of the progress in establishing the University of Southampton’s Delhi NCR campus.
