Breaking: The Academy Announces Oscars 2025 Shortlists

The Academy has announced the shortlists for the Oscars in ten award categories.

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlists for ten categories in the 97th Academy Awards®. The categories include Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.

  • INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM

Fifteen films will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category for the 97th Academy Awards. Films from 85 countries and regions were eligible in the category.

India’s submission for the Best International Feature category at the Oscars, “Laapataa Ladies,” directed by Kiran Rao, did not make the shortlist.

The Academy has announced the 15 films that advanced, and unfortunately, “Laapataa Ladies” is not among them.

In contrast, British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri’s film “Santosh,” which represents the United Kingdom, has successfully made it onto this celebrated shortlist, highlighting its potential to achieve recognition at the Academy Awards.

Fifteen films will advance to the Documentary Feature Film category for the 97th Academy Awards. A total of one hundred sixty-nine films were eligible in this category.
