— UPDATE —
India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a Public Notice mandating that all multidisciplinary universities and colleges upload their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) data to the ABC portal by December 31, 2024. After this deadline, institutions can no longer submit credits to the ABC system.
Institutions must immediately upload their credit data to comply with this directive. Timely compliance is essential for full participation in the ABC system and to ensure a smooth academic process without disruptions.

EDITOR’S OPINION
Enhancing Efficient and Seamless Mobility of Academic Credits between Institutions
Multidisciplinary higher education institutions (HEIs) in India are poised to play a vital role in driving the efficient and seamless transfer of academic credits across various platforms. This is essential for equipping students with the flexibility they need to navigate diverse learning pathways and take control of their educational journeys. To achieve this ambitious goal, HEIs must proactively leverage the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform and the Digilocker framework, which are integral to modern education management.
HEIs should participate in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and establish a robust central administrative hub within their respective institutions that oversees all aspects of the ABC and the Digilocker system. This strategic structure will significantly streamline the management of academic credits.

By implementing this coherent approach, institutions can dramatically enhance credit mobility while empowering students with a more integrated and versatile educational experience. The time for action is now, and HEIs are uniquely positioned to lead this transformative initiative.
- The role of the Registrar is crucial in a public university setting, as this individual serves as a dedicated public servant receiving a salary from taxpayer funding. It is of the utmost importance that the Registrar remains focused on the timely submission of Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) data to the designated ABC portal. This vital procedure facilitates students’ access to their academic records and credentials, ensuring they can obtain this essential information without unnecessary delays.
- However, if the Registrar allows personal distractions or engages in activities unrelated to his core responsibilities, it could significantly disrupt the educational journeys and professional aspirations of countless students. Many rely on this crucial data to unlock opportunities for advanced studies, job applications, and career growth. Therefore, the Registrar’s commitment to his duties is not just a matter of efficiency; it directly impacts the futures of students who depend on timely access to their academic achievements.
