Modi and Jinping Discuss India-China Relations at BRICS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.

Kazan Russia, October 23, 2024 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India met with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on October 23, 2024.

Prime Minister Modi expressed support for the recent agreement aimed at complete disengagement and resolution of the issues that emerged in the India-China border areas in 2020. He highlighted the significance of effectively managing differences and disputes to prevent any disruption of peace and tranquility. The two leaders concurred that the Special Representatives addressing the India-China boundary issue would convene early to oversee the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the border regions while also seeking a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution to the boundary question. Furthermore, relevant dialogue mechanisms involving Foreign Ministers and other officials will be employed to stabilize and enhance bilateral relations.

The two leaders underscored the importance of maintaining stable, predictable, and cordial bilateral relations between India and China, as these two neighboring nations are the most prominent countries globally. They acknowledged that such ties would significantly influence regional and global peace and prosperity. Furthermore, the leaders articulated that fostering amicable relations would contribute to establishing a multi-polar Asia and a multi-polar world. They emphasized the necessity of advancing bilateral relations from both a strategic and long-term perspective, enhancing strategic communication, and exploring avenues for collaboration to address developmental challenges effectively.
