NIKON FILM AND PHOTO CONTEST 2024-2025: CALL FOR ENTRIES
MELVILLE, N.Y., October 18, 2024 — Nikon Inc. has announced that submissions for the Nikon Film and Photo Contest 2024-2025 will be accepted starting at midnight EDT on October 30, 2024.
This international photo and film competition is designed to enhance imaging culture by allowing professional and amateur photographers and filmmakers worldwide to connect and collaborate. The competition began in 1969, and over the last fifty-plus years, it has seen participation from numerous photographers and, more recently, filmmakers from various countries and regions. In the previous 39th Contest, 35,000 participants from 180 countries submitted over 70,000 works.
Sarah Leen has been appointed the Lead Judge for the Nikon Film and Photo Contest 2024-2025. In 2013, she became the first female Director of Photography for National Geographic magazine and National Geographic Partners. In 2020, she founded the Visual Thinking Collective, a community of female editors, teachers, and curators specializing in creating and managing visually driven projects. Sarah significantly influences many artists, including the next generation of photographers.
The Nikon Film and Photo Contest for 2024-2025 marks the 40th edition of the Nikon Photo Contest International, which began in 1969. This year’s Contest will include a Short Film and a Photo Competition.
The Short Film Competition features two categories: Super-Short Film and 5-Minute Film. Meanwhile, the Photo Competition includes a Single Photo Category and a Photo Story Category.
This time, the Short Film and the Photo Competition theme is “Inspire.” Nikon invites submissions that evoke new perspectives and emotions. The Nikon Film and Photo Contest 2024-2025 winners will be announced in September 2025. Judges will be appointed and announced on the Nikon Film and Photo Contest website as they are selected.
- Eligibility
The Contest is open to all photographers and filmmakers, professional or amateur, regardless of age, gender, or nationality.
- Entry Categories
Short Film Competition
Theme: “Inspire”
English subtitles are required if a language other than English is used in films (they are not required if English is used).
- Super-Short Film Category
Entry format: 20- to 40-second-long video
Any equipment may be used.
- 5-Minute Film Category
Entry format: 3– to 5-minute-long video
Any equipment may be used.
- Photo Competition
Theme: “Inspire”
- 1) Single Photo Category
a. Entry format: Single photo
b. Any equipment may be used.
- 2) Photo Story Category
a. Entry format: Photo story (two to five images)
b. Any equipment may be used.
- Entry Period
From midnight on October 30, 2024, to 11:00 p.m. on February 16, 2025, EST.

- Awards, Prizes, and Selection of Winners
One Grand Prize will be awarded to the best entry in each category: Film and Photo. Additionally, two entries from each category will receive an Excellence Award, while three will be honored with a Special Encouragement Award. The General Public Award winners will be determined through public voting on the entries that make it to the final round of judging.
