Modi Addresses Indian Community in New York

Prime Minister Modi addressed the Indian community in New York.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at a large gathering of the Indian community in Long Island, New York, with over 15,000 people in attendance.

New York, September 23, 2024 — The Indian community welcomed the Prime Minister with exceptional warmth and enthusiasm. In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the significant role of the Indian American community in strengthening the relationship between India and the US. He highlighted their pivotal role in nurturing ties between the two democracies, expressing immense pride and value in their contribution. The Prime Minister also mentioned his meeting with President Biden the previous day at the President’s home in Delaware, noting that this special gesture reflected the strong bond of trust that the Indian community has built with the United States.

The Prime Minister discussed his vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047. He emphasized that his historic third term, following the largest democratic exercise in human history, would be dedicated to advancing India’s progress. He highlighted the transformative changes in India over the last decade, including the development of next-generation infrastructure, lifting 250 million people out of poverty, India’s economic growth from being the 10th largest economy to the 5th largest, and the current aim to become the third largest economy in the world.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to implementing reforms that align with the people’s aspirations. He mentioned the country’s increased dynamism, with innovation, entrepreneurship, start-ups, financial inclusion, and digital empowerment driving growth and prosperity. He also emphasized the significant impact of women-led development and green transition at the grassroots level.

The Prime Minister emphasized that India significantly contributes to global growth, prosperity, peace, security, climate change action, innovation, supply chains, and value chains and addresses global skill gaps. He added that India’s influence is increasingly felt on the international stage.

The Prime Minister has announced plans to open two new Indian consulates in the US – one in Boston and one in Los Angeles. A Thiruvalluvar Chair of Tamil Studies will also be established at the University of Houston. These initiatives aim to strengthen the connection between India and its diaspora in the United States. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the Indian diaspora, with its strong influence, will continue to play a crucial role in fostering closer ties between India and the US.
