LOS ANGELES, CA, September 18, 2024 — The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 winners of the 51st Student Academy Awards competition. This year, the competition received 2,683 entries from 738 colleges and universities worldwide.
The 2024 winners now join the esteemed company of past Student Academy Award® winners such as Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Spike Lee, Patricia Riggen, and Robert Zemeckis.
The Academy announced that the presentation ceremony for the annual international student film competition will be held in London this year in partnership with Rolex. The 51st Student Academy Awards, traditionally held at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, will take place at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square in London on Monday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. BST. The ceremony is free and open to the public, but advance tickets are required and can be obtained online.

First-time honors go to the National Institute of Design, India; Digital Hollywood University, Japan; and Filmova Akademie Miroslava v Písku, Czech Republic.
The ceremony will announce the gold, silver, and bronze winners in four award categories. Winners of the Student Academy Awards can attend panels and networking events in partnership with the BFI London Film Festival. Additionally, they will have exclusive access to Academy members who can support their career advancement.
All Student Academy Award-winning films can compete for the 2024 Oscars in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Film category. Past winners have received 67 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 15 awards.
The Student Academy Awards were established in 1972 to provide a platform for emerging global talent and create opportunities within the industry for them to showcase their work.
