LYON, France, Sept. 13, 2024 — The WorldSkills Lyon 2024 competition, a truly global event, began on Sept. 10 in Lyon, France, and will continue until Sept. 15. Around 1,400 participants from nearly 70 countries and regions are showcasing their skills in 59 different categories, including construction technology, fashion, personal services, engineering, and more.
The opening ceremony on Sept. 10 was a vibrant celebration of talent, passion, and determination. Delegations from each country paraded with their flags, past champions delivered inspiring speeches, and French President Emmanuel Macron officially declared the competition open. The event highlighted the significance of vocational training in shaping the future workforce.
During the Parade of the Nations at the opening ceremony, a 60-member Team India walked with confidence. The French President, Emmanuel Macron, officially inaugurated the 47th WorldSkills Competition at a grand ceremony held at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France. Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, also attended the ceremony to boost the confidence of the young participants from Team India.
With diverse skills on display, Team India stood out with their ceremonial attire, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship. Competitors from Team India will be participating in skills like 3D Digital Game Art, Additive Manufacturing, Autobody Repair, Chemical Lab Technology, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Digital Construction, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design, Industry 4.0, Health and Social Care, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Robot System, Water Technology, Welding, Bricklaying, Plastering, Patisserie, Bakery, Hospitality Services, and more.
The WorldSkills 2024 competition in Lyon, France, is a battle of skills and an opportunity for global knowledge sharing and collaboration. The event holds significance for France, which is also hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in 2024. This year, the Indian contingent is making history by having women compete in traditionally male-dominated fields such as welding, plumbing, and heating, indicating a changing dynamic within India’s workforce and promoting gender equality in vocational training.
Often referred to as the “Olympics of Skills,” the WorldSkills 2024 competition will run from Sept. 10 to 15th at Euroexpo Lyon, France. With over 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries, the event will draw over 250,000 attendees, including 1,300 experts.
