New Delhi / Chandigarh, August 12, 2024 — The University Grants Commission (UGC) India has directed all universities to constitute an Internal Complaints Committee and submit a compliance report via the UGC’s University Activity Monitoring Portal.
The universities are required to form a committee following the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the University Grants Commission (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations 2015.
These laws and regulations outline the responsibilities of higher educational institutions, the grievance redressal mechanism, punishment, compensation, and consequences of non-compliance.
The UGC regulations, being of a statutory nature, have binding authority over all Higher Education Institutions.
The Office of the Registrar at Panjab University, Chandigarh, has issued a “CIRCULAR” confirming the establishment of an Internal Complaints Committee in compliance with the regulations set forth by the Government of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
