- Ministry of Education releases NIRF India Rankings 2024.
New Delhi, India, August 12, 2024 — Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, released the 2024 India Rankings based on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Secretary of Higher Education, Shri K. Sanjay Murthy; UGC’s Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar; Chairman of AICTE, Prof. T.G. Sitharam; Chairman of NETF, Prof. Anil Sahasrabuddhe; Member Secretary of NBA, Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa; Additional Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Shri Sunil Kumar Barnwal; Joint Secretary, Shri Govind Jaiswal; and other academicians and heads of institutions were present at this occasion.
While addressing the audience, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that Ranking, ratings, and accreditation are vital recommendations of NEP (National Education Policy) 2020. He added that it is heartening that NIRF rankings deeply reflect the spirit of NEP. The Minister congratulated all the HEIs that have demonstrated excellence in teaching, innovation, research, graduation outcomes, and other parameters and bagged a place of pride in the India Rankings 2024.
The Minister stressed that knowing an academic institution’s quality, performance, and strengths is a right of students and parents. Therefore, all the 58,000 HEIs in the country must come under the ranking and rating framework. Shri Pradhan stated that employability and skills are a priority. He also said that our ranking mechanism must include skilling as a parameter. Intangible aspects are a powerful stimulus to learning and development. He added that we should devise mechanisms to bring intangible aspects of education into the rankings framework.
The Minister urged all the captains of Indian academia to join the ranking framework, set ambitious goals, and strive for higher rankings in future editions. Together, let’s foster an environment of educational excellence to realize the goal of Viksit Bharat, he added.
Key Highlights of India Rankings 2024
- Indian Institute of Technology Madras retains 1st position in the Overall Category for the sixth consecutive year.
- Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, tops the Universities Category for a ninth consecutive year.
- IIM Ahmedabad tops in Management, retaining its first position for a fifth consecutive year.
- For the seventh consecutive year, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, occupies the top slot in Medical Sciences.
- Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, tops the Ranking in Pharmacy this year.
- Hindu College secured the first position among Colleges for the first time, replacing Miranda House, which retained its first position for seven consecutive years.
- IIT Roorkee retains 1st position in Architecture and Planning for the fourth consecutive year.
- National Law School of India University, Bengaluru retains its first position in Law for the seventh consecutive year.
- Delhi’s colleges maintain their dominance in the Ranking of Colleges, with six out of the first ten colleges from Delhi.
- Anna University, Chennai, tops the State Public Universities Category, introduced in 2024.
- Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, tops the Open Universities Category, introduced in 2024.
- Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is at the top of the innovation category.
- Symbiosis Skill and Professional University (SSPU), Pune, tops the Skill Universities category ranked this year for the first time.
