UGC Deadline: Upload Credit Data to ABC Portal by December 31, 2024

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice establishing the Deadline for higher education institutions to upload credit data to the ABC portal.

New Delhi, India, August 8, 2024 — The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a directive to higher education institutions (HEIs) mandating the submission of credit data on the ABC portal by December 31, 2024. After this Deadline, HEIs will be precluded from registering credits within the ABC ecosystem.

The NEP (National Education Policy) 2020 aims to move towards a higher education system with large, multidisciplinary universities and colleges. The goal is to create flexible curriculums that use a credit-based system, allowing for adaptable, integrated, and diverse education. This opens up new opportunities for lifelong learning, with multiple entry and exit points.

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) has been established to support this vision. It digitally stores academic credits earned from various recognized Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). Academic institutions play a crucial role by ensuring the timely upload of credits to the APAAR credit repository and depositing them into students’ APAAR accounts. This is essential to facilitate the redemption and transfer of credits.

In light of this, the UGC has directed that all HEIs prioritize data upload to meet the deadlines and complete the ABC ID-mapped credit data upload for the Academic Years 2021, 2022, and 2023. Additionally, HEIs must upload credit information immediately after completing assessments and declaring results.
