Tokyo/New York, August 2, 2024 — Two esteemed institutions, the United Nations University and the University of Tokyo, co-hosted the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS) Annual Meeting 2024.
The 2024 ACUNS Annual Meeting provided a crucial platform for practitioners and scholars worldwide to explore the urgent theme of ‘Global Governance and Sustainable Development: Revitalizing Research to Support Multilateral Solutions.’
Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, delivered the Opening Keynote Address on “Multilateral Solutions through Research, Technology, and Innovation.”
Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, presented the ACUNS Lecture on “Reclaiming the Right to Peace.”
Professor Lise Morje Howard, Former President of the Academic Council on the United Nations System and Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University, USA, delivered the John W. Holmes Memorial Lecture on “The UN Security Council in Interstate War.”
Pedro Conceicao, Director of the Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), discussed “The Human Development Journey: Open-ended and Open-armed.”
