- CBI files a fresh chargesheet in the NEET Paper Leak Case.
New Delhi, India, August 2, 2024 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a fresh chargesheet in the NEET Paper Leak Case. The chargesheet covers Sections 120-B, 201, 409, 380, 411, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and related offenses against 13 accused individuals. The CBI said it uses advanced forensic techniques, artificial intelligence technology, CCTV footage, and tower location analysis, among various tools, to gather Evidence against the accused.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducts ongoing investigations involving additional suspects and various aspects of the case. Several individuals implicated in the case are currently in police or judicial custody. Upon completing investigations against these individuals, the CBI will file supplementary chargesheets. The CBI has apprehended 40 suspects and conducted searches at 58 locations.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had received a concerning report from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit. The report suggested that the integrity of the UGC Net 2024 Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), may have been compromised.
Consequently, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, formally requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to undertake a thorough investigation encompassing a wide range of alleged irregularities.
The identified irregularities include the following offenses committed by the implicated educational institutions, officials, intermediaries, candidates, and colluding accomplices:
- Conspiracy
- Cheating
- Breach of Trust
- Destruction of Evidence
- Impersonation
The government has urged the CBI to investigate the potential involvement of public servants in the case, scrutinize the broader sequence of events, and probe any underlying conspiracy.
The Government of India stated that it is committed to maintaining the utmost integrity of examinations. As a result, the CBI has registered a criminal case, initiated an investigation, and formed special teams to investigate the matter as a top priority.
