New Delhi, India, July 31, 2024 — The 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee concluded successfully, marking a significant milestone in global heritage preservation. This event, hosted for the first time in India, brought together leaders and experts from all over the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, and various other international dignitaries attended the session’s inauguration.

One of the main points of the meeting was the approval of 24 new sites to be added to the World Heritage List. These sites, each a unique cultural treasure, were carefully selected, and their addition marks a significant step in global heritage preservation. The committee also assessed the condition of several existing World Heritage sites, focusing on those considered at risk. The committee made important decisions about their preservation status and the required actions to safeguard them.

Various requests for international assistance were addressed during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of financial and technical support in preserving heritage. India pledged $1 million to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre to boost capacity-building initiatives and aid conservation projects in developing countries.
