- India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, presided over the signing of the Letter of Intent between Atal Innovation Mission and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
New Delhi, July 22, 2024 — Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister of India, oversaw the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Atal Innovation Mission and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The objective is to advance India towards Viksit Bharat 2047, envisioned as an innovation-driven knowledge economy.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that serves the global community of innovators and creators.
Prominent figures attended the event, including Mr. Sherif Sadallah, Executive Director of WIPO Academy; Mr. Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog; Dr. V.K Saraswat, Member of Science and Technology at NITI Aayog; Ms. Altaye Tedla, Head of WIPO Academy; and Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director of AIM. Various other officials also graced the event with their presence.
During the event, Mr. Pradhan articulated that an innovation-based knowledge economy would propel India toward Viksit Bharat by 2047. He underscored that this endeavor aims to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and Intellectual Property programs for the benefit of all, particularly in the Global South. Mr. Pradhan also underscored that innovation is a potent asset for India and that the collaborative alliance between AIM and WIPO will facilitate the dissemination of India’s pioneering innovation models to nations following comparable developmental trajectories. The principal objective is to augment comprehension and awareness of Intellectual Property Rights, commencing from the academic level, thereby unlocking global innovation potential and fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Mr. Pradhan expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his vision of witnessing record growth in the country’s innovation ecosystem. He added that the government has registered steady progress in the WIPO Global Innovation Index, reflecting its commitment to nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship.
