Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate 46th UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 46th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on July 21 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

New Delhi, India, July 20, 2024 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the 46th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee at 7 PM on July 21, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Mr. Modi will address the gathering. The Session will take place from July 21 to July 31, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

India is hosting the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting for the first time. More than 2000 national and international delegates from over 150 countries will attend the meeting. The Director-General of UNESCO, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, will also be present during the inauguration.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee meets annually and manages all matters related to World Heritage. It decides which sites will be inscribed on the World Heritage list. It discusses proposals for adding new sites, State of Conservation reports for existing properties, and using World Heritage funds.

Alongside the World Heritage Committee Meeting, the World Heritage Young Professionals’ Forum and the World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum are also taking place.

Further, various exhibitions will also be set up at Bharat Mandapam to showcase India’s culture.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Archaeological Survey of India, is hosting the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024 in Delhi, India, from July 14 to July 23, 2024. This event is part of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee and the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme. The theme of the Forum is “World Heritage in the 21st Century: Building Capacities and Exploring Opportunities for Youth.”

The Forum will enhance the expertise and capacities of young professionals in protecting, preserving, and promoting our natural and cultural World Heritage.
