CBI Initiates Criminal Conspiracy Case on UGC Net 2024 Examination Integrity Compromise

New Delhi, June 23, 2024 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India, has announced that it has registered a criminal case against unknown accused persons under Sections 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) and 420 (Cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). CBI said that this action was prompted by a complaint from the Secretary of the Department of Education, Government of India, indicating the matter’s seriousness and the investigation’s thoroughness.

CBI elaborated that the complaint states that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has received a disturbing report from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The report suggests that the integrity of the UGC Net 2024 Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18, 2024, in two shifts across different cities in the country, may have been compromised.

The Government of India said its swift and decisive actions demonstrate its unwavering commitment to addressing compromised situations and maintaining the utmost integrity of examinations.
