Camille Cottin Leads 77th Festival de Cannes Opening with Emotion and Elegance

Cannes, France, May 14, 2024 — Stepping into a realm of cinematic brilliance, the 77th Festival de Cannes commenced with a grandeur that only this prestigious event can command. Camille Cottin, already on stage at the Grand Theatre Lumiere, welcomed the audience to the Cannes Vortex, a parallel universe of film and art.

Driven by the energy of the Worakls Orchestra, the French actress set the tone for the twelve days of the Festival, emphasizing emotion, commitment, and, of course, love of cinema.

“We watch films all day and discuss them all night. Despite speaking different languages, we all understand each other. Here, when you delve into darkness, it’s to find light. It is where film fans worldwide meet for encounters, dialogue, culture, and enchantment. Every year, we come to Cannes to capture a picture of our humanity and rekindle hope,” remarked Camille Cottin.

Cottin, the Mistress of Ceremonies, invited Ebru Ceylan, Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, Nadine Labaki, Juan Antonio Bayona, Pierfrancesco Favino, Kore-eda Hirokazu, and Omar Sy to join her. They are the members of the Feature Film jury chaired by American actress and director Greta Gerwig.

Greta Gerwig was deeply moved by the captivating performance of singer Zaho de Sagazan, who sang “Modern Love,” the worldwide hit and the soundtrack to her film, “Frances Ha.

American actress Meryl Streep received an honorary Palme d’Or from French actress Juliette Binoche at Cannes. Streep reflected on her career and expressed gratitude for the incredible artists she’s worked with.

Finally, the two actresses joined voices to declare the 77th Festival de Cannes officially open! Enjoy the Festival!
